Designed by architect Antoni Rovira i Trias, its construction marked the creation of the first market outside the city of Barcelona. Inaugurated in 1882, it soon expanded its offering with textile traders from Paral·lel and other non-food products.

Later, booksellers and collectors also joined on Sundays, giving rise to the Sant Antoni Sunday Market. In 2007, renovation works began, but their completion was delayed until 2018 due to the archaeological remains that were discovered: the Roman Via Augusta, a necropolis, and the remains of the San Antonio bastion.

Mabelux Technic was responsible for bending Jansen stainless steel profiles for a large number of the market’s windows.
